Above: four tridimensional paintings by Marcello Silvestri that reflect on the themes of war, conflicts, justice and peace. Each was painted in a very short span of time, during restless nights of anguish and insomnia, as the artist was deeply shocked by the drama of the outbreak of war. The titles, from the top, are: "Ukraine" (born from the shock of the Russian attack against Ukraine and meditating more broadly on the bloodshed of war at any point in history), "Anelito" (Italian word for "longing", for peace), "The sick mind" (of those that promote war and threaten to use nuclear arms), and "Peace". The first three were painted in February 2022 while the fourth, with peace written in Arabic (salam) and Hebrew (shalom) and the knights of the Apocalypse in the background was made in late 2023 and reflects on conflicts in the Middle East especially the war specialmente between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. All these contemporary artworks were painted in abstract style, inspired by "arte povera", that is, with simple natural and discarded materials such as sand, wood shavings, carved wood, and rags applied on wooden board. The dimensions vary between 60x40cm and 80x80cm.
