Veronese di nascita, Marcello Silvestri ha trovato nei terreni collinosi di Tarquinia, in Maremma, un habitat congeniale. Dopo anni di lavoro e di esposizioni in tutto il mondo, da Parigi a New York, da Osaka a Londra e Bruxelles, decide all'inizio degli anni ottanta, di consacrare la sua arte alla meditazione della Bibbia, e inaugura il programma "Bibbia, Arte e Catechesi". Fonda quindi il "Gruppo Bezaleel" - dal nome dell'artista eletto direttamente da Dio (Esodo 31,2) - per approfondire con altri artisti, con biblisti, liturgisti e critici d'arte le esigenze di una Bibbia che nell'elaborazione artistica audiovisiva si fa catechesi. Carlo Cibien A me piace rappresentare Silvestri come uno di quei cantastorie che un tempo raccoglievano i candidi ed i semplici sulle piazze prima che gli schermi mediatici li divorassero e non si stanca di invitarci con generosa ostinazione a rivivere un qualche momento di quella storia sacra che, sotto le parvenze del favoloso, ripropone le verità più profonde che condizionano l'umana salvezza, al di là del diletto che largiscono all'immaginazione. Born in Verona, Marcello Silvestri found in the hills of Tarquinia (Maremma), an ideal and inspiring working environment. After many years working all over the world, from Paris to New York, from Osak to London and Brussels, he decided, in the early 1980s, to dedicate his art to the exploration of the Bible and set up the programme "Bible, Art and Catechism". He later founded the "Bezalel Group" - named after the artist directly elected by God (Exodus 31, 2) - to study and meditate the Bible together with other artists, Bible scholars, liturgy experts and art historians. Their meetings focus on the need to elaborate and illustrate the Bible audio-visually, thereby creating a new type of Catechism. Carlo Cibien I like to see Silvestri as one of those story-tellers that in the past used to attract the simple and the innocent people in the squares, before the screens of the media swallowed them up. With tireless and stubborn generosity, he invites us to experience particular moments of the Sacred History: disguising it as fabulous, he offers the deepest truths that condition human Salvation, beyond the mere delight that they give to imagination.
